'Tis the Season

Some silly evidence of Corvin and Mazzie... Corvin and Mazzie's nanny is due to have her baby any day now, so I have been home with them for two weeks now as we are in childcare transition.

We are making a few visits to the daycare that they will start to attend after the holidays to warm them up to it. They made these Santas during our first visit. (Mazzie's  Santa is on the left and Corvin's is on the right.) Corvin is still warming up to the daycare environment, though he did warm up and played away from me for about 20 minutes towards the end of our visit. Mazzie charged in and took over the place, but then needed to be held for about an hour straight once she was home.

Corvin and Mazzie helped me make cookies for the tree. The odd-shaped ornament is the head of a cookie that was a man. I don't quite know how it came to be beheaded (or bebodied??), since Corvin isn't tall enough to reach it. I say Corvin, rather than Mazzie, because he is the Cookie Monster in our house. Mazzie gets a cookie, takes a bite or two (or maybe just a lick) and is done. This is the last cookie on our tree.

Hope all the traditions of the holiday are creating merriment in your part of the world, too!

Warm November Day

It was 60F today. The temperature is going to drop tonight with snow expected tomorrow, so we spent every moment that we could outside, starting with a sunrise walk with Peanut Butter. Wow, huh?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here are my gratitudes this year. If they are too much for you, by all means, skip to the pictures!

 - I am grateful that Corvin and Mazzie are loving life so much. Mazzie enjoyed hunting the cat (and getting into the litter box) at one house that we spent Thanksgiving at and Corvin was in ecstasy jumping, bouncing and rolling on the couch at the other house. They are now having full fledged adventures with their little toy horses, blocks and pretty much everything else they encounter.

-  I am thankful that we got to see The Nutcracker Suite this Wednesday as a family. It is such a magical experience for little children (and adults, too!) Corvin and Mazzie, in the second row with an awesome view, were riveted.

- I am thankful that Steve and I have been able to, more and more, steal moments to rest and play.

- I am thankful that Corvin and Mazzie have been in the hands of a loving, capable nanny for the last year and a half, and their new daycare situation seems great.

- I am thankful that though their extended family is far away, Corvin and Mazzie know them, love them, and chatter about them.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!
. . .
BOO!!

Trick or Treat -- Corvin and Mazzie, "bats and bones" and the butterfly fairy princess, trick or treat on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder as part of the annual Munchkin Masquerade. Corvin chose his outfit, by the way - - he did have the option to be Mr. Bones entirely, but he wanted to wear his bat shirt.

Corvin and Mazzie in Downtown Boulder
Corvin and Mazzie needed to burn some energy after days in the house after the storm, so we trotted around Boulder's downtown area on Sunday.

First day in the back yard after the storm
Mazzie helped us with clean up in the back yard after a recent snowstorm knocked numerous branches, large and small, off of our massive cottonwood. Once Corvin awoke from his nap, he helped, too. (Mazzie should have been napping.) Steve had pulled a wasps nest out of the crab apple tree as part of our clean up.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Corvin and Mazzie!

Yesterday, Corvin and Mazzie turned two. We kept things simple, since that is how things are for them right now. We thought about having a party and inviting some kids, but then, because other kids are such a novelty to Corvin and Mazzie, we thought it would just be about that instead of about their birthday. So instead presents and happy birthday phone calls trickled in through the day. Mazzie and Corvin wore their birthday girl and birthday boy pins all day (thanks, Mimi!), Mazzie wore a birthday dress, Corvin wore his mismatch plaid (his choice), and the day ended with "happy birthday" and blueberries and whipped cream on pound cake. (They only ate the blueberries and whipped cream - - no pound cake.) We talk about birthdays all the time, but they knew that yesterday was their special day.

These pictures are mostly from our walk to pick daddy up at the bus stop and the return trip.
