Corvin and Mazzie Went to The Farm E-I-E-I-O

Today (Saturday), I had to go to Fort Collins to do a location analysis for a market study that my firm is working on. We decided to make it a family affair, and after the work portion of the day was through we went to The Farm. I think the pictures pretty much speak for themselves. My parents had ducks and geese and chickens when I was young (we also had a goat and a horse when I was a tween) and Steve grew up across the road from a farm (which has been converted to a McSubdivision). Covin and Mazzie don't have easy farm animal access though, so this was their first encounter with many of these animals. After so many recitations of Old McDonald's Farm and other farm toys, books and songs, it's about time! If I lived in Fort Collins I would get an annual pass and take the kids there every day. So cool!

I had to share this photo, too, which was taken on the way home tonight. A lot is going on in this photo. Extreme weather, beautiful mountains, and off to the far right of the picture in the foothills - - if you look very closely - - smoke from a fire caused by a car engulfed in flames and a related grass fire, which I now know (from reading the Boulder Daily Camera website) hadn't been reported at the time that we noticed it and took this picture. Oops! Next time we see something like this we will plan to report it. A happy ending: the fire has been put out.

Corvin, Mazzie, and Willow Celebrate 4th of July Together

We love the Butterworths! Thanks so much for coming out. We had a great time.

Claire (my best friend since high school), Charlie (her husband, great photographer and creative person, and generally awesome person extraordinaire), and Willow (thier daughter who is 2.5 months older than Corvin and Mazzie) spent a long 4th of July weekend with us. The dark part of our weekend came when Mazzie broke her arm while playing in the puppet theater at our town's library (she fell off of a shelf that kids stand on to put on the puppet shows, but according to the librarian, aren't supposed to. Why is it there, then?) Mazzie the Amazing did her usual thing and recovered and was playing in the back yard later that afternoon. She is doing great and will be out of her cast in just two weeks. Little bones heal fast!

The Three Amigos

A Very Special Birthday

This year was a special birthday for Mom. (I don't divulge secrets. You can guess. 21? 30? 40? etc...) My brother, Jade Star, and I have been planning this for some time. It was a mini family reunion, minus my dad, who stayed in Maine with the animals (dogs, cat, parrot, goose).

Mom flew and Jade Star and his family (Hilary, Finn [4], and Siri [13 months]) drove from California, enjoying Utah along the way. On day 1, we just hung out at our house, on day 2 we did a beach day at Chatfield State Park near Denver, Day 3 was a day in Boulder and date night for Jade Star and Hilary who borrowed our bikes and coasted to Louisville's downtown for the three Ds (dinner/drinks/dessert), and day 4 was Mom's birthday celebration (brunch at Mercury Cafe in Denver with a stop at the REI store in Denver and Confluence Park and a fabulous European lemon cake with ice cream). Fun was had by all.

Once upon a time in May and June

Wow! Long time since I last posted, eh? We've been a little busy around here. We moved. Steve's poor mom saved the day by scheduling her vacation for the end of May, which - - after she had purchased plane tickets - - became the weekend of our move. She watched the kids, packed, hauled boxes and furniture, cleaned, and unpacked. Poor woman! Her vacation... Mary Ellen, we thank you profusely. We couldn't have done it without you.

For those of you who know our old address, everything is the same, except change the house address to 549. We moved three doors down and across the street and love our new digs.

Speaking of digs, here are some pictures from our town's super awesome annual kid event Touch a Truck, which we went to soon after the big move:
