The Hunt for Stinking Bishop

Cheeeeeese! I love cheese!!
-Wallace (Wallace & Gromit)

Stinking Bishop's notorious odour, which is said to be similar to unwashed socks and wet towels, keeps it popular in the UK and abroad.

If you are familiar with Wallace and Grommit www.wallaceandgromit.com you know that Wallace loves cheese with a passion and you can learn volumes about cheese, particularly English cheeses, by watching the show. Stinking Bishop is one of the cheeses that we learned of by watching The Curse of the Were-rabbit and simply our favorites to say. (Try it, preferably with a British accent "Stink-ing Bi-shop".) Therefore, we have declared a hunt for Stinking Bishop.

Tonight we went to La Fromagerie in Longmont, a cheese warehouse that provides coats for customers who go into the refrigerated warehouse (not Were-house, fortunately). La Fromagerie is in a very industrial section of Longmont www.ci.longmont.co.us/, a community with blue collar roots that include a Butterball turkey factory, mining and lots of agriculture. The large and growing Latino population in the community shows that the blue collar is alive and well... but back to cheese.

As you can see from Steve's picture - he's in the English section - the cheeses are from all over the world. Our favorite was the Vietnamese cheese. (Just kidding.) Despite the extensive cheese selection, we came up short. No Stinking Bishop. We were, however, able to walk away with a wedge of Double Gloucester with Blue Stilton and one of semi soft Welsh cheese with white wine and garlic. None-the-less, we won't stop until we find some Stinking Bishop. Let us know if you succeed. And the rules are: you can't get it ordered, you have to find it in a store.
